Introduction to Joe White

February 9, 2023

Hello, my name is Joe I'm the newest member of 3CT and I have been with the team for just over a month now. I'm going to use this opportunity to talk about where I've come from and what I've had the opportunity to learn over the past month.

Before joining 3CT I worked in retail where I was a team leader. My general day-to-day responsibilities would involve managing my team and making sure general operations would go through without fault. As well as that I would also have the responsibility of making sure the stores' electronics and other tech items would function and be maintained to a certain standard, which I did for four years. During my time in retail, I also had the opportunity to start and finish a retail management apprenticeship which at the time I believe gave me quite a lot of valuable skills that I still use to this day.

Since joining the team in January I've been able to learn a great deal. As I'm new to this industry, I was apprehensive that I would get overwhelmed with the information that I was going to be faced with however, the company have been incredibly supportive in my learning making sure that I'm going over the fundamentals and starting with a good foundation.

To start I've been working my way through some of the different try hack me modules, I'm currently working my way through the complete beginner module and have also looked at the intermediate pen testing module as well as a nmap module. Overall, I found this incredibly useful as I've been able to learn some basic skills from the beginner module and then attempt to implement the skills that I've learned in the intermediate penetration testing module. I've started to learning about the different standards that exist in this industry in particular I've been going more in depth into ISO27001, however at this current point in time I feel like I'm only scratching the surface with it. Finally, over the past month I've been working with Cameron during his cyber essentials plus audits and as a result I've had the opportunity to learn how he carries these out and why this scheme exists, which has been incredibly interesting.
